WHAT IS IELTS?

TYPES OF IELTS: 

IELTS IS OF THREE TYPES:-

IELTS VERSION:

IELTS HAS TWO VERSIONS OF TEST: ACADEMIC IELTS AND GENERAL TRAINING IELTS. THE PURPOSE OF BOTH THE IELTS IS DIFFERENT AS BOTH HAS ITS OWN IMPORTANCE.

• IELTS ACADEMIC:- This test is meant for students willing to Study Abroad. This test is for Study Visa.
• GENERAL TRAINING IELTS:- This test is usually a visa requirement for those applying for permanent residency to English speaking countries. IELTS General Training is intended to test the English skills that an immigrant or a worker would need for communication in the workplace and in an everyday environment.

SCORING SYSTEM:

• THE IELTS TEST DOESN’T CONFIRM PASS OR FAIL, INSTEAD OF THIS THE BANDS ARE CALCULATED ON THE SCALE OF 0-9.
• THE BAND REQUIREMENT FOR ALL THE COUNTRIES VARIES ALONG WITH THE PARTICULAR INSTITUTIONS/ ORGANISATIONS. FOR UG COURSES IT GENERALLY REQUIRES OVERALL 6 BANDS (AND NOT LESS THAN 5.5 BANDS IN EACH MODULE) AND FOR PG COURSES IT GENERALLY REQUIRES OVERALL 6.5 BANDS (AND NOT LESS THAN 6 BANDS IN EACH MODULE).
• THE IELTS TEST HAS THE VALIDITY FOR TWO YEARS.

TEST FORMAT FOR ACADEMIC IELTS:

• LISTENING :- THE LISTENING TEST IS OF 40 MINUTES IN WHICH YOU WILL BE HEARING THE AUDIO FOR THE FIRST 30 MINUTES AND 10 MINUTES WILL BE GIVEN TO TRANSFER YOUR ANSWERS TO YOUR ANSWER SHEET.
• READING :- THE READING TEST IS FOR 60 MINUTES.THIS TEST CONTAINS TOTAL 40 QUESTIONS AND HAS 3 PASSAGES.
• WRITING:- THE WRITING CONSIST OF TWO TASK . TASK-1 IS REPORT WRITING THAT INCLUDES THE GRAPHS,CHARTS,DIAGRAMS,TABLES. THE TASK SHOULD BE MINIMUM 150 WORDS. TASK-2 IS ESSAY WRITING IN WHICH YOU HAVE TO WRITE 250 LONG WORDS ESSAYS.
• SPEAKING:- THE SPEAKING TEST IS GENERALLY 11 TO 14 MINUTES LONG AND IS CONDUCTED IN A FACE TO FACE INTERVIEW FORMAT. THIS TEST HAS 3 SECTIONS, IN THE FIRST SECTION THE EXAMINER ASKS QUESTIONS RELATED TO THE CANDIDATE’S INTRODUCTION ETC. IN THE SECOND SECTION THE CANDIDATE IS ASKED TO SPEAK FOR 2 MINUTES ON A GENERAL TOPIC AND IN THE THIRD SECTION FOLLOW UP QUESTIONS RELATED TO THE TOPIC IN SECTION 2 ARE ASKED.

• LISTENING:- THE LISTENING TEST IS OF 40 MINUTES IN WHICH YOU WILL BE HEARING THE AUDIO FOR THE FIRST 30 MINUTES AND 10 MINUTES WILL BE GIVEN TO TRANSFER YOUR ANSWERS TO YOUR ANSWER SHEET.
